DRIVIOCAM — TURN YOUR SMARTPHONE INTO A PRACTICAL DASH CAM
DrivioCam turns your smartphone into a practical dash cam that can continuously record your drive. Instead of purchasing another piece of hardware immediately, you can start with a phone you already own and an app that costs only a few dollars. And if you have an older Android phone sitting in a drawer, DrivioCam can give that phone a very useful second life. Let's take a look at what it can do.
Hello everyone.
Think about the last time you saw someone asking for dash cam footage after something happened on the road.
Maybe they were trying to understand what happened or looking for video that could help document an incident.
But what if you didn't have to depend entirely on someone else's camera?
That's one of the reasons I created DrivioCam.
Using DrivioCam is simple.
Mount your phone securely with a clear view of the road, open DrivioCam, and start recording before you begin driving.
DrivioCam records your trip as a series of video clips.
If something unusual happens, you have your own footage available to review rather than depending entirely on someone else having recorded it.
One of the most useful features on Android is the ability to keep DrivioCam recording while you're using Google Maps or another navigation app.
Set your destination in Google Maps.
Start navigation.
Switch to DrivioCam and start recording.
Then return to Google Maps.
DrivioCam continues recording in the background while you navigate.
This makes DrivioCam practical even if you only have one Android phone with you.
DrivioCam also includes incident detection.
If the app detects sudden impact-like movement or hard braking, it can lock the relevant footage.
That makes important recordings easier to identify and helps prevent them from being treated like ordinary loop-recording clips.
Your recordings can include useful information such as the recording time, vehicle speed and GPS location.
That provides additional context when you review a trip or need to document what occurred.
DrivioCam isn't limited to driving.
When your vehicle has been parked for a period of time, the app can switch into parking mode.
Instead of continuously recording everything, DrivioCam can monitor for motion in front of the camera and record when activity is detected.
This gives you another way to monitor what happens around the front of your vehicle while parked.
Video consumes a lot of storage, so DrivioCam lets you control how much phone storage the app can use.
For example, you could limit DrivioCam to 10 gigabytes.
That's especially important when you're using your everyday phone because DrivioCam shares storage with your photos, apps and other files.
You decide how much storage DrivioCam is allowed to use.
After your drive, open the DrivioCam video gallery.
You can browse your recordings, filter them by date or recording type, replay clips, save selected videos to your phone's gallery, delete recordings you don't need, or share selected clips through other apps.
There's another reason I like having a camera recording while I drive.
Sometimes the road gives you something unexpected.
A beautiful sunset.
Wildlife beside the road.
An unusual vehicle.
An incredible mountain drive.
Or simply a funny or interesting moment.
If DrivioCam is already recording, you may capture moments you would otherwise miss.
Later, find the clip, save it and share it with friends or on social media.
DrivioCam gives you control over your recording setup.
Depending on the platform and available features, you can configure settings such as video resolution, clip length, storage limits, audio recording, timestamp and speed overlays, camera options, and motion sensitivity.
A dedicated dash cam can be an excellent choice, especially if you want permanently installed hardware.
DrivioCam offers another option.
If you already own a compatible smartphone, for only a few dollars you can turn it into a practical driving recorder.
You can use your current phone, or give an older phone a new purpose as a dedicated dash cam.
There is no need to choose one solution for everyone.
DrivioCam is for people who want an affordable, flexible and convenient way to record their drives using a device they already own.
You may drive hundreds of times without ever needing your recordings.
But the day something important happens, having your own footage could be extremely useful.
And along the way, you might capture some memorable moments too.
